The Washington Post has launched a new project for users to gain a better understanding of the global climate change policy debate ahead of the UN's Conference on Climate Change, taking place in December. One of the major pieces was an interactive that allows users to explore changes in carbon emissions from fossil fuels for G-20 countries, selected developing nations and others critical to the debate.
The feature also lets you dive into individual countries to provide more in-depth information and the latest related news items. Keep checking back as we hope to add different kinds of climate-related data and measurements to these pages.
The Flash interactive features both total carbon emissions and emissions per capita statistics from a variety of nations. This project was created using data from the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center and an internal Django database. Flash visualizations were created by information from the database and custom animations on the Flash timeline. Country profiles linked from the interactive are a combination of that data and Google Charts.
